More facts about L.E.D

Despite the wide variety of lighting options available, cutting edge LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) carry several significant financial, practical, and environmental benefits that cannot be ignored in today's forward-thinking societies. Unlike other light sources, an LED light is comprised of a semiconductor, which is more easily produced and allows for more controllable and unique lighting solutions. We have created the following list in order to help people understand why LEDs are rapidly becoming the world's most preferred light sources.

  1. Longevity
  2. When compared to conventional light sources such as incandescent bulbs, LEDs have a significantly longer lifetime and are built to last 50,000 hours or more - approximately 6 years if lit 24 hours a day. If lit 8 hours per day, 7 days a week, the LED should operate for over 17 years without before needing a replacement! In comparison, incandescent bulbs are built to last up to 5,000 hours each, which will require several replacements within the time frame of only 1 year. Furthermore, LED bulbs last up to 10 times as long as compact fluorescents (CFLs).
  3. Low Power, High Efficiency
  4. LEDs use up to 80% less power than conventional light sources, including incandescent or halogen. Incandescent bulbs, for example, require substantial heat for the filament to generate light, which is wasted energy because a large fraction of the available electricity is not being used to produce visible light. With LEDs, a much higher percentage of the electricity is used directly to produce light, thus considerably cutting down on power usage. Today's cutting edge technology is yielding even more efficient LEDs, measured as light output per unit power input. By generating more lumens per watt (efficacy) while using less energy, LEDs translate into high savings on electricity bills. Today's LED specialists continue to improve the efficiency and lumens/watt ratio in order to surpass all other conventional lighting sources.
  5. Low Heat
  6. LEDs product less heat relative to other conventional light sources and will not increase the temperature of the surrounding environment. Since most of the power used is converted into light, minimal heat is produced and touching an LED light source will not burn one's fingers. This low heat emittance makes LEDs ideal for retail environments as well as illuminating heat sensitive products such as cosmetics or chocolate.
  7. Durability
  8. Unlike incandescent, HID or fluorescent lamps, rubbing, intense movement or vibrations to the fixture will not affect the performance of LEDs. Thus, LED users no longer have to tolerate dangerous and messy broken glass from conventional lamps.
  9. No Infrared or UV Radiation
  10. LEDs do not produce infrared or ultraviolet light. This makes LEDs especially ideal for illuminating precious artifacts, paintings, clothing, or other items that are susceptible to fading or deterioration due to UV rays.
  11. Less Wiring
  12. Since LEDs have a lower operational voltage and amperage - and therefore draw less energy to operate - the wire gauge can be reduced. This translates to lower wiring costs for brighter lights.
  13. Safety
  14. LEDs will instantaneously operate at full brightness after being turned on at a rate that is approximately one hundred times faster than conventional light sources. This makes LEDs ideal for commercial vehicles, emergency lights, law enforcement, etc. as LEDs are more noticeable, more reliable, and brighter.
  15. Cost Effective
  16. The use of LEDs means little to no maintenance costs as well as substantially lower energy and electricity costs - sometimes up to 80% savings or more. Since LEDs are much more durable, versatile, and long lasting than conventional light sources, the savings become apparent within the few years of using LEDs because little to no money is spent on maintenance and/or replacements. Having LED lights means brighter, more reliable and longer lasting illumination for a fraction of the cost that would be required for incandescent, fluorescent, and other light sources.
  17. Versatile Applications
  18. With an extensive range of LED light colors, sizes, arrays, and retrofit capabilities, LEDs are able to satisfy almost any lighting solution. Designers and OEMs can select from a spectrum of light colors, whereas conventional lighting has limited color choices and often require either color paint or expensive filters in order to create colors other than white. In addition, LEDs are waterproof and are able to withstand outdoor conditions remarkably well, such as dry heat, humidity or the cold. LEDs are dimmable and can be used with materials such as plastic, rock, steel, brass, wood, and more, making them perfect for both indoor and outdoor illumination. To date, LEDs have been used for landscape lighting, automotive/marine lighting, back lighting for advertisements, retail display lighting, museum interior illumination, floodlights, refrigeration lighting, emergency/safety lighting, traffic/roadway lighting, stage/theater lighting, and much more.
  19. Environmentally Friendly
  20. LEDs are energy-saving light sources due to their low power draw and will remain functional for many years longer than conventional lighting. Due to their longevity, LEDs require lesser replacements and will therefore contribute less waste in the long run. LEDs will not increase the temperature of the surrounding environment, and do not contain any harmful gases such as mercury. Furthermore, LEDs can be controlled so that they produce less light when there are no people in the vicinity, thus minimizing light pollution in metropolitan areas.

Tectonic LED Spotlight Advantages

FACT: 1 compact uorescent lamp (CFL) = 1mg Hg. Improper Disposal leads to the water we use.
At present rates of disposal, Lake Geneva will be contaminated within 8 years.

Contamination of 5,300 liters (1,400 Gallons) of drinking water!!
Why would consumer purchase toxic waste? and end up paying A LOT more money for electricity?

Ever since we introduced high power LED lighting to consumers and businesses we've seen products enter the market that are cheaply made at best and dangerous at worst. When developing the SX™ we concentrated on making a product that not only will perform for a decade or longer but will do so safely in your home or business.
Every single component of the SX™ Spotlight was considered during its development. Its n-buckle aluminum alloy heat sink is the perfect shape for optimal heat dissipation allowing the SX™ spotlight to remain warm to the touch even after running for days. The PC high density plastic base that houses the SX™ control circuitry is made of ame retardant plastic, and other Tectonic globe spotlight (Example: the Phantom Series) globe that covers the LED emitter is virtually unbreakable. The SX™ contains no hazardous substances, is fully RoHS compliant and UL listed.

Simply Greener than CFLs, High pressure sodium, metal halide, high pressure mercury & all other lighting products. Like all our products, the SX™ is simply in another league when it comes to safety and environmental friendliness. While governments around the world along with consumers wake up to the dangers of CFLs, LEDs now o er a true alternative. It's not just marketing either, just one CFL improperly disposed can cause lasting damage to the environment a effecting drinking water and food sources we all use.

SX™ LED Spotlight
We tested the SX™ in extreme conditions: in frigid -50 degree frost all the way up to scorching 180 degree heat. We even used the SX™ in a steamy room with 95% humidity. The results were clear, even under extreme stress the SX™ performs.

CFL Mercury Risks (Mercury, Lead & halogen environmental pollution)
Mercury is only half of the problem with CFLs. If you've ever used one, you know their light is less than ideal. Flickering, drab color, long start up times in cold weather, these are just some of the many reasons consumers are quickly finding CFLs are not a long term solution.

LED lighting pays for itself in a little under 2 years at $.10 per kWH
Tectonic SX™ 12W High Power Spotlight saves you over $33 per light xture per year and pays for itself in just a little under 2 years! That's just by replacing one light and that doesn't even count other important considerations such as cooling costs and costs associated with purchasing the over 30 incandescent light bulbs needed over that 10 year period. Just think of how large your savings would be by replacing all of your lighting with high e ciency TECTONIC LED SX Spotlight and other lighting products. Making the switch to LED is now easier than ever thanks to the SX™. In addition to its great level of value, we o er a comprehensive 5 year warranty and total support for your lighting project.
